Mosquitoes are annoying. Their stings are itchy and cause swelling and they can even transmit diseases like West Nile Virus, Dengue Fever, and Malaria. This is obviously a problem we all want to avoid, and thankfully many municipalities have taken up the task of protecting us.
For many years, federal, state and local agencies have trusted Fluid Metering’s pumps to help administer the insecticide. In years past, Thermal Fog was used but since it burned diesel fuel alongside the insecticide, it was both expensive and not environmentally safe. Fortunately, Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) aerosol technology was developed. ULV uses compressed air and a very accurate metering pump to inject the insecticide into the fluid stream. This method reduces costs and is much more environmentally friendly.
ULV sprayers work by dispensing very small aerosol droplets that stay in the air and kill flying mosquitoes on contact. This application can utilize a very small amount of active pesticides while covering a large area. At roughly 3 oz. an acre, the risk to humans and the environment is very small.
FMI’s unique valveless piston pumps have proven ideal for ULV fluid control. Sapphire-hard internal ceramics and the elimination of valves found in conventional pump designs virtually eliminate routine maintenance and downtime while improving precision to 1%. Variable speed DC drives are easily integrated to control flow rate proportional to vehicle speed. Flow rates are adjustable up to 2,300 ml/min with 1% precision and pressures up to 100 psi.
